About Occupational Therapist Carrie Marcello, OTD, OTR/L, CAPS, ECHM, Owner

Her Education
Carrie graduated with her doctorate in Occupational Therapy from Washington University in St. Louis and has experience working in a variety of settings from pediatrics in a clinic to older adults in their own homes. The majority of her career has been working with adults and older adults, helping them return to the activities they want and need to do!

Beyond her academic credentials, Carrie holds the Certified Aging in Place Specialist (CAPS) designation from the National Association of Homebuilders and the Executive Certification in Home Modifications (ECHM) from the University of Southern California.

There’s no place like home
With the costs of a nursing home in Washington often exceeding $90,000 per year and the sometimes-difficult transition that is required when older adults move into supportive care or assisted living environments, she looks at what it would take to enable clients to stay at home. Oftentimes, her customize professional home assessment can offer a less expensive and more satisfying alternative for clients, families, caregivers, and the insurance companies that service them.

Expertise every step of the way
Her knowledge of the healthcare industry, insurance coverage, local resources and patient well-being gives her a distinct advantage when it comes to decision-making around adjusting to life and a new lifestyle after a serious illness or when planning for the future. The medical background she has allows her to understand the specific complications that come with conditions such as dementia, stroke, cerebral palsy, multiple sclerosis, traumatic brain injury, and orthopedic changes, as well as normal aging.

“My job is to make sure that your home is exactly what you need for both the present and the future. The more your home supports your needs, the less effort you use to complete your daily activities or hobbies. Creating long-term function and independence for you, in the environment that you know and love, is my ultimate goal.”
